I'm passionate about traversing different dimensions and spaces in my thoughts, weaving together scattered photos from life into creative collages. As a creator with multiple personas, sometimes I can't pinpoint which version of myself is behind the camera. Yet, our shared love for photography remains unwavering. This passion has given rise to a series of works encompassing my growth, emotions related to miners and coal, philosophical reflections, and expressions of relationships between people, individuals and the universe, and various entities. Each piece is a part of my life's journey, and this trajectory continues to evolve.

An Qi is an independent photographer whose practice engages with the entanglements of memory, identity, space, and time. Born in northern China and educated in the School of Journalism at Xiamen University, he draws upon a personal archive of lived experience, cultural memory, and philosophical inquiry. His work is grounded in a logic of layering—visual, emotional, and metaphysical—through which he constructs conceptually driven photographs and installations that weave fragmented realities into poetic, spatial narratives.

Working at the intersection of conceptual and documentary modes, An Qi investigates states of becoming, transformation, and dissolution. His projects often probe questions of subjectivity, labor, and the cosmic, exploring how the self negotiates larger systems: social, historical, and universal.

His work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions across major institutions in East Asia and has been featured in international festivals such as the Pingyao International Photography Festival, Lishui Photography Festival, and Jinan Biennale. Black Diamond was acquired by a national museum dedicated to coal and labor history, while his installation Quantum² entered the collection of the Gulangyu Academy of Fine Arts.

In 2024, his series Confluence with Canon was selected for the Louvre Carrousel Contemporary Art Exhibition “ROTOR,” and will be shown in the 2025 London Art Fair. His solo exhibition Disordered Quantum²: Folding and Bending was presented in New York in August 2024.

Across ongoing conceptual and documentary projects—including Unity of Mind and MattersIn the Sea of LeibnizBei Zhangba BlvdHibiscus Blooming in Exotic Lands, and the evolving Quantum² series—An Qi continues to explore the shifting boundaries between self and system, image and imagination.
